About Wild Tunes

Wild Tunes is a 501c3 non-profit dedicated to soothing shelter animals through the power of music. It was founded by Yuvi Agarwal, an animal lover and musician, when he was 10 years old. Wild Tunes has received extensive news coverage on prominent platforms such as ABC’s Good Morning America, USA Today, The Messenger, KHOU-TV, KPRC-TV, and Southern Living, among others.

HOW DOES MUSIC HELP ANIMALS?

Given their challenging circumstances, animals in shelters can be anxious. Studies show that melodious music can reduce cortisol levels and have a therapeutic effect, slowing an animal’s heartbeat and reducing anxiety. This calming effect helps readjust them to human company, making it easier for them to relax, meet potential adopters, and find loving homes.

WHICH MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS ARE BEST SUITED?

Research shows that animals enjoy classical, soft rock, jazz, and country music. Keyboard, string instruments such as violin and guitar, or wind instruments such as flute among others are well suited. No percussion instruments.

Testimonials

I believe in Wild Tunes because research does show that animals calm down with music. I want to spread this to shelters so animals can get adopted easier and find amazing homes.

Zaiden

Wild Tunes Volunteer

“I was grieving the loss of my Great Dane, Titan, and love dogs but didn’t want to commit to that inevitable loss again. I decided volunteering at the shelter was a great way to still be able to experience dogs, without the commitment, and help them be more comfortable with their stay! Then Wild Tunes came along, and I was able to combine my love for dogs with my love for Guitar and play for the animals. Someone saw what I was doing and tagged me in a video of this poor girl dog shaking and they said, “I think she needs some tunes by Drew”. I went and played for Blondie two days and the next day she was scheduled for euthanasia… I couldn’t let that happen so… I fostered for the first time ever… Then I fell in love with her, and it was a total foster failure, but she has a forever home now and I have a new best friend!”

Wild Tunes Volunteer at BARC

“The Humane Education department at Houston Humane Society is excited to support Yuvi and Wild Tunes in fostering the connection of young people, animals, and music so that we can create a more humane future. Our hope is to connect more youth volunteers to the opportunity to play music for our shelter animals in our care to increase their chances for adoption.”

Sarah Janssen

Education and Outreach Manager, Houston Humane Society

“When Yuvi contacted us at Houston Pets Alive!, we were excited about his initiative. He volunteers his time and shares his talent to give our dogs soothing moments that decrease their anxiety and stress. They love listening to his music and enjoy his company. It is because of volunteers like Yuvi that we are able to save lives. I encourage everyone in our community to volunteer, so we can save more lives together.”
